The last time we saw them together was more than 20 years ago, but that has done nothing to weaken the romanticised speculations about actors Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha. So it’s not surprising when the two of them were recently spotted in a photo, that snapshot went viral on social media.
A pilot of a domestic flight wanted to click a picture with Amitabh Bachchan. The actor obliged. However, when the picture when up online, it was neither the pilot nor Bachchan who grabbed people’s attention, but the sight of Rekha sitting in the seat behind Bachchan.
In the picture, we see her wearing sunglasses and turning her face away from the camera. However, that profile is one that no self-respecting Bollywood fan would mistake.
Since the release of Silsila in 1981, Bachchan and Rekha have religiously avoided each other in public gatherings and film events. They haven’t done a film together in past three decades.
Bachchan and Rekha shared sizzling chemistry onscreen and there were rumours of them being romantically involved off screen as well. While Bachchan has maintained silence on the matter, Rekha has been more candid about their relationship and in several interviews, confessed her love for Bachchan.
In an interview to BBC, Yash Chopra, who was the last director to work with both the actors together, had said that Bachchan and Rekha were very much in a remote-relationship during the shooting of Silsila.
