The Department of Posts will launch a Mobile Money Transfer Service (MMTS) across the 1,350 post offices in Andhra Pradesh effective Saturday.
A person who wishes to transfer money to someone in another part of the state should go to his nearest post office and deposit the amount following which postal authorities will SMS a six digit secret code to the mobile phones of both the depositor and the recipient. The recipient can then go to the post office and claim the amount after disclosing the secret code.
Addressing the media, chief postmaster general, A P Circle, B V Sudhakar said the MMTS service will be cheaper than the Money Order (MO) service.
The amount which can be transferred through MMTS can range from Rs 1000 to a maximum of Rs 10,000. The minimum charges for transferring are as follows: Rs 45 (Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500) Rs 70 (Rs 1,501- Rs5,000) and Rs 112 (Rs 5,001-Rs 10,000).
