Madhya Pradesh has seven registered voters shown aged 130 on the voters' list, forcing officials to verify whether there could actually be people as old as this.
Japan's Misao Okawa (115) is the oldest person in the world, according to Guinness Book of World Records.
The seven -- Balvir, Badkoo Kol, Sudhir Kumar, Abhay Alirajpur, Vesta Dhar, Chandmal Neemuch and Manik Kulkarni - are from separate places in the state.
Alirajpur deputy election officer Chandra Shekhar Shukla said it was not possible. "There must be some clerical errors. As far as I know only Japanese live so long. All these errors would be rectified once the verification is completed."
His Rewa counterpart, B B Shrivastav, echoed him. "It is not only this particular case, we have found around 34 such voters whose ages are doubtful and we are verifying each case. The errors would be corrected.''
In Morena district election officials are verifying all those voters shown aged over 99.
"There are 85 voters in our district who are more than 99. Booth level officers have been instructed to verify each one of them,'' said Morena deputy election officer Pankaj Sharma.
"Compiling the voters' list is an exhaustive task and there is every possibility of a clerical error. We are trying to be sure that the final list does not have any irregularity.''
The goof ups are not only restricted to old voters. In Rajgarh district, a voters' age was marked as 13, deputy election officer R P Ahirwar said.
Besides this, 42,094 voters are shown aged 90 or more in the state.
